About Me

Who's the Wild Wanderlass?

I'm a student of science and biology is my chosen career field. In 2011, amidst huge life changes, I stumbled upon a volunteer position at the Wildlife Center of Silicon Valley. Excited to work with local wildlife, but unsure of what to expect, I was thrown into the chaos that is busy season and thrived. My first experience restraining a white-tailed kite was one of the greatest adrenaline rushes of my life and the moment I became addicted to wildlife rehabilitation. For the next year I dedicated a majority of my free time to working at the center and became a sponge for all things wildlife. Until this time in my life, I had not felt the joy that comes from giving selfless service and seeing my actions come full circle for the benefit of another. I have since moved to Southern California after getting my AS in Environmental Science and am continuing my traditional education in Biology while living life and having as many adventures as possible.

Why blog?

The summer of 2013 I accepted an externship position at the Wildlife Center of Virginia for 8 weeks and this blog began as the documentation of my cross country road trip and adventures during that summer. I returned home with renewed faith in my path and a realization that people loved nature but were generally naive to the degrading state of our Mother Earth. With this blog I hope to inspire appreciation for the natural world and it's resources we depend on. Using my scientific training I want to provide a clear, concise resource for those who want to know more about our world but don't know what information is trustworthy. I'll do the research and you can indulge your own wild wanderlust and hopefully see something you didn't see before :) Enjoy!
